Northside Charter High School is seeking a Principal

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

The Principal of Northside Charter High School is a visionary leader, responsible for inspiring and engaging faculty, staff, parents and students in the pursuit academic excellence and social development.  This dynamic administrator should demonstrate outstanding educational vision, professionalism, leadership skills, organizational ability and interpersonal strengths to serve as principal in a secondary (grades 9-12) school.  The principal must set high expectations and foster a culture of continuous improvement in which every member of the school community works collaboratively to ensure the holistic achievement of every student. The Principal reports to the Executive Director.  S/he will supervise the Assistant Principal, the Director of Instruction, the Department Coordinators, faculty, and the SPED Department; the AP supervises the Dean of Students, School Safety and Pupil Support Team. The Principal will also collaborate with the Director of Operations regarding student disciplinary issues.

  • Lead implementation of programs and curriculum aligned with New York Learning Standards, Common Core Learning Standards, and other relevant standards for all subjects
  • Research, design, revise and update curriculum and instruction for all subjects and grades to meet student performance objectives and proficiencies
  • Direct focus on student achievement
  • Understand accountability metrics and annual reporting required of charter schools and oversee submission of accountability metrics

Staff Supervision and Development

  • Recruits, hires, manages and develops all pedagogical staff
  • Develop, motivate and empower staff and cultivate excellent teaching
  • Design and facilitate quality professional development

School Culture

  • Foster culture of lifelong learning for self, faculty and students

Managing Organizational Systems and Safety

  • Directly supervises the Assistant Principal, the Director of Instruction, the Department Coordinators, faculty, and the SPED Department; the Assistant Principal supervises the Dean of Students, School Safety and Pupil Support Team
  • Manage Regents exams and internal assessment schedules and logistics
  • Complete all reports including but not limited to those required by NYCDOE
  • and NYSED
  • Appropriately delegate and supervise leadership responsibilities
  • Mentor and develop teachers’ professional growth

Advocacy and Stakeholder Engagement

  • Work with the Executive Director to engage internal and external constituents to secure resources for the school and students
  • Assist in building alumni support for the school

 

Job Qualifications:  

  • Minimum seven years teaching experience, including five years of school leadership position
  • Demonstrated ability to impact learning outcomes using data and innovative best practices
  • Earned Master’s degree in Education or Masters Equivalent
  • Holds current NYS School Building Leader Certification
