NEW YORK STATE REGENTS DIPLOMA REQUIREMENTS Course Area Required Number of Credits & Regents Exams English Credits: 8 (all 4 years) Exam: Comprehensive English Regents **65 is passing, but 75 shows proficiency for college readiness Mathematics Credits: 6 (3 years) Exam: 1 Math Regents (Integrated Algebra, Geometry, or Algebra 2/Trigonometry) **65 is passing, but 80 shows proficiency for college readiness Social Studies Credits: 8 (all 4 years) including: · 2 credits in U.S. History · 1 credit in Participation in Government · 1 credit in Economics · The remaining 4 credits are typically in Global History Exams: U.S. History Regents AND Global History Regents Science Credits: 6 (3 years), including: · 2 credits in Life Science (Living Environment) · 2 credits in Physical Science · 2 credits in any Science Exam: 1 Science Regents (Living Environment, Earth Science, Chemistry, or Physics) Health 1 credit (1 semester) Art 2 credits (2 semesters) Language Other Than English 2 credits (1 year) Physical Education 4 credits (4 semesters) Total Units 37 Credits in Core Course (listed above) + 7 Electives or additional Core credits 44 Credits to Graduate EARNING A REGENTS DIPLOMA WITH ADVANCED DESIGNATION To earn a Regents diploma with an advanced designation a student must, in addition to the coursework and Regents requirements above, fulfill these additional requirements: Mathematics: Pass all 3 Math Regents: Integrated Algebra, Geometry, and Algebra 2/ Trigonometry Science: Pass 2 Science Regents Exam: 1 must be in a Life Science (Living Environment); 1 must be in Physical Science (Earth Science, Chemistry, or Physics) Language Other English: Pass 3 years (6 credits) in a Language Other than English and pass the Regents Exam in that language, if available. In those languages for which no Regents comprehensive assessment is available, a locally developed test may be administered.
